“I lived the toxicity in the school because I was a Dalit, but it won't be the same with my students”.
“Hey, don’t sit there, go and sit at the back corner of the class because you are Dalit, you cannot touch anyone” I vividly remember those harsh, inhuman words just because I was a Dalit. For a child whose dream was to live, learn and enjoy with friends becomes the most hardship typically. There was a time I was cast aside to drink water and eat lunch with my classmates and study the whole period standing inside the class.
I asked for help from my teachers, but they denied it, and some laughed at my face. Maybe that is why I was left with zero friends and no teachers that I call my favourite. Many students praise and take their teachers as Idol, but the story is not the same for me.
Being born and brought up in the small village of Sindhupalchowk, I aspired to serve my community and be the change that I wanted to see in my life. Caste has always been a big fuss in our community. Lesser, I care to get in between my career, and as a kid, it would have never been easy to let it go. Things were not easy till I topped in Mathematics in my class. “I discarded those disrespected through hard work and dedication”.
Life continues to face more challenges as it grows. So does my ambition has to take a leap of faith. I believe knowledge and education is the only thing that should stand out rather than anybody’s caste. One day I was roaming around in a lane of Gumba, I met a boy who looked young, and I asked him, “what class do you study”- he answered; I dropped out because we have schools, but there are no teachers.
That was the big call of my life; I immediately thought of becoming a teacher and serving in a rural school in Nepal. I am a Math Saathi Teacher 2021 at Hiradevi Basic School, Melamchi.
I aim to be a Teacher that I deserved when I was a kid, and I aspire to become the teacher these kids deserve. Continuously on the verge of learning and connecting life through Maths for them
