Being born into a middle-class family and a firstborn child, I had already adapted a sense of responsibility from the early days. I have completed my schooling at Gyanodaya Secondary School, Bafal Kathmandu. And currently, I am studying at Patan Campus, pursuing a Master's in Sociology.
Though I was a curious kid, I could barely ask any questions because I feared. They have never taught us to raise questions or give our thoughts on mass. It is very unusual to accept that questioning elders felt so wrong. I have never dared to say “No” and would obey anything that teachers told me to do, and that's how I became an obedient student for all.
My family had expectations that my sister and I would engage our time only in books and studies, whereas there was a time we were rarely allowed to watch TV. Coming out of a strict family as a kid, I can remember that I have no friends from my childhood days.
I was roaming around for peace and satisfaction, searching for belongingness, even at work. Often asked questions to self on, how many students are there like me who are afraid, have low confidence and battling inner thoughts to come front and express themselves. Nothing made sense till the day I entered “Hira Devi Secondary School with the help of “Helambu education and livelihood partnership”. I felt like I understood more of our primary education system and student needs inside the classroom. I was downhearted looking at my student's conditions.
I was placed in the Majhi community of Melamchi Municipality. I am dedicated to working towards making a better place for literacy. I am working relentlessly every other day to achieve my only goal of making one child an Idol for the other. These changes are complex, but community visits, extracurricular activities at school and different approaches inside the classroom have raged the attendance.
HELP Saathi Teachers Programme has shaped clarity in my thoughts and helped me to boost my confidence towards working for the cause.
